In Memory of George

George, our market character, has worked very hard all his life to make a living and to survive, but now he can rest in peace.

Without George, every weekend pushing the trolley loaded with heavy boxes to be delivered to the stalls in the morning and to be picked up in the evening, Greenwich Market doesn't seem to be the same anymore. We have lost a unique character, a symbol, he was a part of the market, like the Cutty Sark is for Greenwich.

George has left us for ever, but he will always be in our mind. His death leaves a gap behind and emptiness, which was immediately recognised when he got ill and was missing in the market for a couple of weeks.
George, against all odds!
God bless you George from all stallholders.

George and Lusches in the carparkMy dear friend George,

I will miss sharing a cheese roll and a cup of tea with you at six o'clock in the morning when we used to sit together on a bench at the Coach & Horses. You were waiting for Peter to open the storage and I was waiting in the queue for a stall, and I will also miss our "uh uh uh" habit with the shoulders up and down!

With love --Lusches
